Absolutely! This is where we learn all the stand music for football season, the marching music and the drill (visual formations) for UIL. Any student who misses summer band will be placed as an ‘alternate’.
-
An ‘alternate’ is either someone who misses summer rehearsals OR is a member who we feel needs to develop more as a marcher. They are still a part of the band, march at halftime of the show AND are involved in the UIL show. Just in a different capacity.

Absolutely! We have members each year who also play football, soccer, baseball, volleyball, tennis and golf!
-
Absolutely not! All joking aside, missing a performance is never acceptable for several reasons. In marching band, if a marcher misses then we have a hole on the field which effects our score. We have the entire year on the calendar in May, so please plan trips around these performances.
Remember, of the great things about being in band is learning responsibility and teamwork. Each section depends on all their members being present.
Thank you!

Our color guard, the Viridian Guard Company, is the visual and color splash to the band. It is open to girls and boys at MCHS. Color guard members spin flags, rifles and sabres. We also have a winter guard in the spring that all members of the band can audition for if interested.

Absolutely! Taking private lessons is essential the overall development of players. All members of the wind ensemble must be in lessons and we strongly encourage lessons for the other bands as well.
At the junior high level, private lessons help to reinforce instruction class. Students who take privately also have a much high chance of making region or at top band at the high school level.

100% yes!! Whether the kids will admit this or not, they LOVE having a huge cheering sectioning the stands! We have had great turnouts the past couple years, but I would like this year to be even bigger! Come support all the hard work being done by our awesome students!
